The government of the Russian Federation has warned British nationals and other foreign nationals not to travel to the Special Military Zones in the ongoing war with Ukraine, as their security cannot be guaranteed.

A statement issued yesterday by the Embassy of Russia in Abuja, “We urge British and other foreign nationals to refrain from travelling to the Special Military Operation Zone in any capacity.

“Their presence within the area of active combat operations or its vicinity poses immediate and grave danger for their life and health.

“Non-Ukrainian nationals who take up arms as part of Ukraine-linked military units are considered mercenaries by the Russian Armed Forces.

“They are considered legitimate targets by the Russian Armed Forces.

In the event of capture, they face criminal prosecution by the relevant Russian authorities.”
Russia has been at war with Ukraine, and Britain and its allies, especially the United States, have been supporting and funding Ukraine both militarily and diplomatically, which has drawn the ire of the Vladimir Putin government in Moscow.
