The controversy surrounding the senatorial ticket of Ebonyi South zone – between Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi and Princess Ann Ago-Eze yesterday, took another twist as the ward chairman of Umudomi ward in Onicha local government area of the state, Mr. Ogboji John, described the reported expulsion of Ago-Eze as false and illegal.
In a statement dated 14th August, 2022, signed by the ward chairman, he said that nothing of such ever took place in the ward while urging the general public to disregard the rumour.
State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Stanley Emegha had on Sunday announced the expulsion of Princess Ago-Eze from the party over alleged misconduct.
Ogboji said the attention of the APC, Umudomi ward in Onicha local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been drawn to a purported suspension/expulsion of Princess Ann
Agom-Eze from the party at the ward level.
“Let me categorically state that the rumours of her suspension/expulsion are all false as such has never happened in Umudomi Ward. The matter is in Appeal Court and we have received an Appeal Court injunction to that effect, hence restraining us from suspending anybody until the matter is determined by the court”.
“I urge the general public to disregard such rumour as Umudomi Ward of APC are peace loving people”.
Meanwhile, a group, Ebonyi South Concerned Citizens has petitioned the national leadership of the APC over the alleged expulsion of Agom-Eze from the party.
Leader of the group Engr Ogochukwu Orji alleged that the chairman, secretary and treasurer were held hostage in a bid to sign the suspension/Expulsion letter.
He alleged that the party ward executives were offered N1Million each to sign the purported expulsion document adding that when all effort failed, the leadership of the party in the zone called for a stakeholder meeting in Afikpo and announced the purported expulsion.
“We are talking about Ebonyi South Senatorial District, which comprises of Onicha, Ohaozara, Ivo, Afikpo North and Afikpo South local government areas.
“And from available statistics, Onicha controls the most populous number of votes in the zone, followed by Afikpo South.
“The leadership of the party are jittery and they are aware that the Governor cannot win the case at the Court of Appeal, they have already foreseen defeat and that why he is doing all this”.
