Team Nigeria maintained its flawless run at the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III Qualifiers in Botswana, storming into the second round after completing the group stage with a perfect record of three victories from three matches.

The Nigerian women’s team confirmed its status as one of the tournament favourites by topping its group in commanding fashion, following victories over Burundi, Namibia and Madagascar to remain firmly on course for promotion to the Billie Jean King Cup World Group II.

Nigeria began its campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Burundi before producing a dominant 3-0 victory against Namibia. The team then capped an impressive group-stage display with another emphatic 3-0 triumph over Madagascar, underlining its growing confidence and quality.

Against Madagascar, Success Ogunjobi gave Nigeria the perfect start with a composed performance to claim the opening singles rubber. Barakat Oyinlomo Quadre then sealed the tie by winning the second singles match, ensuring an unassailable 2-0 lead.

The doubles pairing of Quadre and Khadijat Mohammed completed the whitewash, combining superbly to secure a straight-sets victory and preserve Nigeria’s unbeaten record in the competition.

Nigeria’s outstanding campaign has been built on resilience, discipline and impressive teamwork. While the narrow victory over Burundi highlighted the squad’s fighting spirit under pressure, the comprehensive wins against Namibia and Madagascar showcased the team’s depth of talent and confidence.

With three consecutive victories, Team Nigeria has emerged as one of the standout performers at the tournament and heads into the decisive second round with significant momentum.

The next phase is expected to present sterner opposition as Africa’s top teams battle for the available promotion places, but Nigeria’s performances so far suggest they possess the consistency, determination and quality required to compete with the continent’s best.

The impressive displays by Success Ogunjobi, Barakat Oyinlomo Quadre, Khadijat Mohammed and their teammates also reflect the steady progress of women’s tennis in Nigeria, with a new generation of players continuing to make a strong impression on the continental stage.

As the race for promotion intensifies, Team Nigeria will be aiming to build on its perfect group-stage campaign and convert its impressive start into a historic qualification for the Billie Jean King Cup World Group II.

The unbeaten run not only highlights the players’ commitment and resilience but also reinforces Nigeria’s growing reputation as an emerging force in African women’s tennis. With confidence high and momentum firmly on their side, the Nigerian team remains well placed to challenge for promotion in Botswana.
