The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has secured full accreditation for all its academic programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC), marking a major milestone for the institution.

The accreditation followed an extensive assessment exercise carried out by the Commission in October and November last year across the university’s faculties, schools and centres.

The result, conveyed in a letter dated April 7, 2026, and addressed to the vice chancellor, confirmed that all programmes offered by the institution met the required standards.

Reacting to the development, the vice chancellor, Edoba Omoregie, described the achievement as a product of dedication and collective effort.

The statement signed by the institution’s spookesperson, Dr Benedicta Ehanire, said, “This feat is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of management and staff to academic excellence, as well as our resolve to uphold high educational standards and values.”

Omoregie commended the university’s Senate, faculties, departments and relevant committees for their roles in ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.

“Our Senate, faculties, departments and committees worked assiduously to ensure due diligence and strict adherence to the requirements for full accreditation,” he added.

The vice chancellor reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in line with his administration’s five-point agenda.

According to the university management, the full accreditation status granted by the NUC will be valid for five years, ending in 2030.
