A women-led civil society organisation, Attah Sisters Helping Hand(ASHH) Foundation, has concluded a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on positive parenting in Bauchi state.
The training, supported by UNICEF Nigeria, brought together 32 selected facilitators from communities across Bauchi, Darazo, Dass, and Ganjuwa local government areas.
The initiative aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to promote positive parenting practices and improve the wellbeing of children in their communities.
Participants engaged in interactive modules drawn from the UNICEF Positive Parenting Manual, exploring key themes such as healthy and unhealthy relationships and quality time together.
Speaking at the close of the workshop yesterday, the executive director of ASHH Foundation, Comfort Attah, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening families as a cornerstone for child protection and social development.
She noted that empowering local trainers with parenting knowledge is a strategic step toward building safer and more nurturing communities for every child.
UNICEF Facilitator, Pragna Chakma, highlighted the importance of understanding children’s emotions, noting that many parents often misinterpret or overlook their children’s feelings, leading to emotional disconnection.
She emphasised that helping children express their emotions positively fosters stability, empathy, and stronger family bonds.
Malama Safiyanu Muhammad from Darazo described the experience as “Insightful and transformative,” pledging to replicate the lessons learned among parents and caregivers in his community.
