United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commended the Gombe State government for its efforts in reducing the number of out-of-school children.

In a statement released via its verified Facebook page, the global agency applauded the state’s recent adoption of the National Framework on Out-of-School Children, describing it as a vital move toward ensuring that every child in Gombe has access to quality education.

UNICEF stated, “Kudos to Gombe State! The government has adopted the National Framework on Out-of-School Children. This will reduce the number of out-of-school children in Gombe and ensure every child gets access to quality education.”

According to Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s director-general on Press Affairs, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, the recognition followed the governor’s recent signing of a comprehensive Framework of Action  during a high-level strategic engagement with the UNICEF Chief of Field Office, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, in Gombe.

The framework, developed in collaboration with UNICEF, addresses the multifaceted challenges contributing to the high number of out-of-school children in the state.

The document outlines a holistic approach centred on strategic political engagement, identification and adoption of best practices, enhanced community accountability and the use of technology, innovation, and ICT to expand access to quality learning opportunities.

While signing the document, Governor Inuwa Yahaya stressed that the action is part of Gombe State’s commitment to educational reform and inclusive learning for all children, regardless of background or circumstance.

The Governor expressed commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in the quest for universal education.

As stated by the UNICEF chief of the field office during the meeting,” this landmark development has positioned Gombe as a leading example among Nigerian states in the fight against educational exclusion, and has further strengthened the state’s collaboration in driving impactful social change”.
