The pan-African cloud platform dedicated to advancing the continent’s digital sovereignty, Unicloud Africa, in its bid to move Africa’s technology ecosystem, has officially launched its enterprise-grade Sovereign Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure across six countries — Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Senegal, and Mozambique.
The firm described the launch as a decisive step toward Africa’s digital and financial independence, positioning local enterprises and governments to achieve unprecedented control and performance in their digital operations.
Operating under the mission statement ‘One Cloud, One Africa,’ the rollout is powered by a strategic partnership with TouchNet, a leading African technology services provider.
The collaboration ensures that Unicloud Africa’s infrastructure is built on a robust, scalable foundation tailored to the continent’s unique regulatory, financial, and connectivity needs.
Announcing the launch at a media briefing in Lagos, Mr Ladi Okuneye, CEO of Unicloud Africa, remarked that the platform is the foundation for Africa’s true digital and financial Independence.
Meanwhile, Unicloud Africa’s platform is designed to resolve African enterprises’ most pressing challenges: unpredictable costs, regulatory compliance, and limited access to advanced computing power.
Okuneye asserted that the company’s approach begins with financial sovereignty and predictable costs.
He noted that enterprises can now pay for cloud services in their local currencies, eliminating the financial strain of foreign exchange volatility. In addition, the company guarantees zero data egress fees, ensuring predictable monthly billing and granting businesses unrestricted access to their data, a major cost differentiator from offshore providers.
Similarly, it operates on a flexible, pay-per-use operational expenditure (OpEx) model, allowing businesses to free up capital and avoid heavy upfront investments in infrastructure.
Unicloud Africa’s infrastructure is built to meet global standards of trust and security, ensuring that data remains sovereign while maintaining world-class reliability.
According to the firm, all sensitive data including those used in AI, machine learning, and Big Data applications is hosted and processed entirely within national borders. This design ensures compliance with strict data protection and regulatory frameworks across finance, healthcare, and government sectors in Africa.
The platform delivers two active-active availability zones and guarantees a contractual 99.999% uptime Service Level Agreement (SLA) on storage, one of the highest in the industry. It also adheres to ISO 27001 (Information Security) and ISO 22301 (Business Continuity) certifications, affirming its global compliance standards.
In addition to sovereignty and compliance, Unicloud Africa aims to democratise access to high-performance computing power through its GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) offering that enables African businesses and developers to run complex AI models, process large datasets, and scale innovation without investing in costly hardware.
Okuneye described the launch as a transformative step. He said, “For too long, African enterprises have been held back by the financial burden and compliance risks of offshore cloud platforms”
Commenting, TouchNet CEO Charly Bayou said the collaboration with Unicloud Africa represents a major step forward for the continent’s digital transformation.
“By partnering with Unicloud Africa, TouchNet is directly accelerating Africa’s digital transformation. We are delivering secure, scalable, and locally optimised AI Cloud infrastructure that empowers businesses and governments to modernise operations, drive innovation, and secure their data locally. This platform is a testament to our commitment to a connected and sovereign Africa,” he said.
For his part, Dr Ayotunde Coker, CEO of OADC, supported the initiative but emphasised the broader economic importance of local infrastructure.
“We firmly believe that fully localised cloud infrastructure is critical for economic growth and Africa’s digital future. This is why OADC is fully committed to collaborating with and providing all needed support to partners like UniCloud Africa, who are key to realising a truly unified African digital ecosystem,” he said.
