The national programme manager of UNIDO, Dr Osu Inya Out, stated this during a courtesy visit to the minister of water resources and sanitation, Prof Joseph Utsev, in Abuja.

Dr Otu emphasised the significance of water resources in the production of hydropower, adding that UNIDO had been in close collaboration with the ministry in the areas of poverty alleviation and sought the support of the ministry for the successful implementation of the project.

The minister stressed the need for strong partnership with UNIDO to enhance operation of dams for hydropower and improve food production in the country.

Professor Utsev highlighted the importance of constructing dams and utilising them effectively to address the longstanding issue of power shortage and food production.

The minister stressed the commitment of the current administration to enhancing various sectors of the economy, especially in the area of food security.

A statement by the director of press, Funmi Imuetinyan said Engr Utsev assured UNIDO of the readiness of the ministry to collaborate and provide technical and infrastructure support for the success of UNIDO projects in the water sector.
