UNILAG Elects Prof Lesi DVC Development Services

The Senate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has elected Professor Foluso Afolabi Lesi of the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine as the new deputy vice-chancellor (DVC), Development Services.

He was elected via an electronic voting process with 86 votes (0.86 percent) at the Statutory Meeting of Senate held on February 26.

Professor Lesi is a former provost, College of Medicine (CMUL) and current board chairperson of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

He is an alumnus of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, where he obtained his MBBS degree in 1984 and consequently completed his postgraduate training at the same affiliated teaching institution, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) obtaining the FWACP (Paed.) in 1994. He bagged a Master’s degree with Distinction at the University College London in 1997.

Beyond the academia, Professor Lesi has gathered relevant administrative experiences over the years, displaying teamwork and innovation. He is a consultant to many national and international agencies and served as a resource person in several national and international conferences, workshops and training programmes in Europe, North America and Africa.

 

His appointment, when ratified by the university’s Governing Council, is for two years and takes effect from Saturday, March 29, 2025
