The University of Port Harcourt, has announced the elevation of 31 staff members of the institution to the rank of professor.
Among those promoted to the professorship rank are the director-general of National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, Innocent Barikor and the winner of the 2024 NLNG Prize for Literature, Obari Gomba.
The university’s spokesman, Dr. Sam Kpenu, issued a statement in Port Harcourt yesterday stating that 15 other academic staff members were promoted to the position of Associate Professor.
Kpenu stated that the promotion was announced during the 187th meeting of the university’s governing council, which the pro-chancellor and chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa chaired.
Barikor was a senior lecturer at the Department of Political Science at the University of Port Harcourt until President Bola Tinubu appointed him as NESREA director general.
He also served as a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015.
Meanwhile, the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Owunari Georgewill has congratulated the newly promoted staff and wished them the best of luck.
