The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) chief field office, Dr. Macheal Juma, has appealed to the Kebbi State Government to pass the child protection law, saying it would greatly assist in implementing the rights and protection of children in the state.

“If the law is passed, more interventions on children will come to the state, which will have a direct bearing on the children,” Juma said at a one-day end-of-year review meeting with line ministries, departments, and agencies of the state government.

The meeting, held at the Shagalinku Hotel Conference Hall, aimed to review the performance and achievements of UNICEF’s intervention programs in the state, including health, child protection, nutrition, WASH, education, social policy, and SBC.

Juma made the appeal through the Ministry of Justice, urging them to fast-track the passage of the law.

“We have made significant progress in our programs, but there are areas that need improvement,” he said.

Presentations were made by officials from various ministries and agencies, highlighting key achievements and challenges in their respective sectors.
