The Akwa Ibom High Court sitting in Uyo, the state capital, has sentenced Ignatius Uduk, a University of Uyo (UNIUYO) Professor of Human Kinetics, to three years imprisonment for electoral fraud during the 2019 general elections.
Of the three charges preferred against him by the prosecution—the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—Justice Bassey Nkanang, of Uyo High Court 5, in the judgement delivered on Wednesday, acquitted Uduk in Count 1, convicted him, and sentenced him to three years inpriṣonment each on Counts 2 and 3 to be served concurrently.
Another UNIUYO Professor, Peter Ogban, also arraigned by INEC under similar circumstances, had earlier been convicted and sentenced to three years of impriṣonment in the trial that opened in 2019 over that year’s general elections.
