The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has responded to the viral video involving an assault on a male lecturer by a female student, assuring the public that a full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation was underway.

In a press release signed by the University’s Acting Head, Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis, on Tuesday, the university identified the individuals involved as Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 300-level student of History and International Studies.

Recall that a heated altercation between the duo took a dramatic turn after the female student bit the lecturer during a dispute over a TikTok video recording.

The altercation captured on the video, which gained significant traction on social media, has sparked widespread debate.

The university emphasised its commitment to discipline, self-reliance, and excellence, stating that the matter was being handled with fair hearing, equity, and justice. According to the statement, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has directed a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The university is committed to upholding discipline and decorum, and we will ensure that appropriate actions and sanctions are taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” the statement read.

The institution also reaffirmed its reputation as a center of academic excellence, stating that it will not tolerate indiscipline, misconduct, or any form of unacceptable behaviour within its community.

“Nnamdi Azikiwe University remains an institution of learning that upholds high moral and ethical standards. There is no place for indiscipline, misconduct, or any form of unacceptable behaviour within our community,” the statement read.

The university promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
