The United Nations Youth Association-Nigeria (UNYA-Nigeria), in collaboration with the Global Relations Foundation, has launched the Nigerian chapter of the United Nations Youth Delegate Program (UNYDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
The landmark initiative was designed to provide Nigerian youths with a direct pathway to national and international engagement, fostering leadership, inclusion, and active participation in global decision-making processes.
Speaking at the launch, Ambassador (Dr.) Eze Ihechukwumere Ezekiel, President and Head of Mission of UNYA-Nigeria, emphasised the transformative impact of the programme on young Nigerians and the nation as a whole.
He noted that the UNYDP-NG would empower Nigerian youths to play meaningful roles in national development and represent the country effectively on the global stage.
In a statement by Ambassador Jace Owie, a distinguished youth noble Ambassador and Head of Mission to the newly launched UNYDP-NG, the program’s objectives and benefits were outlined.
He explained that the initiative would serve as a vital platform for young leaders to engage in nation-building and contribute to sustainable development.
Ambassador Owie also highlighted that the UNYDP-NG would facilitate youth participation in global events such as the United Nations General Assembly in New York, ECOSOC, WHO meetings, and other youth delegate activities in Geneva, Switzerland.
The initiative is expected to nurture a new generation of Nigerian leaders equipped to address contemporary global challenges, drive innovation, and champion the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
