As a move to actualize the urban modernization drive of the present administration across the state, the Yobe State governor Hon Mai Mala Buni has approved the remodeling of the city’s four major roundabouts with Damaturu the state capital.
A statement issued by the Focal Person Digital and Strategic Communications, Yusuf Ali said the initiative which was meant to compliments the ongoing construction of Damaturu’s first-ever flyover and a broader plan to upgrade key roads and infrastructure across the city was part of the directive by the governor to the Yobe State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The Commissioner for Housing, Arc. Ahmad Buba has while speaking on the project said the redesigned roundabouts will blend Yobe’s cultural heritage with modern urban design, featuring advanced street lighting and lush landscaping to enhance the city’s beauty and functionality.
Arc. Buba said the Gashua road roundabout will display an aeroplane sculpture, symbolizing Yobe’s growing investment in aviation and the strategic importance of the nearby Damaturu International Cargo Airport.
He equally said the Gujba road roundabout will feature a canoe sculpture, honoring the ancient 8,000-year-old Dufuna Canoe and highlighting the state’s rich historical and archaeological heritage while the Potiskum road roundabout will incorporate cultural motifs that celebrate the vibrant traditions of Yobe’s diverse communities.
The commissioner further said “The Maiduguri road roundabout will be designed with a calabash motif, representing Yobe’s hospitality, craftsmanship, and enduring cultural legacy.
“This remodeling project represents a significant step toward creating a modern, livable city that respects and preserves Yobe’s rich heritage.”
Government has already released the animated designs which sparked excitement, offering a glimpse of Damaturu’s future as a cultural and infrastructural beacon in the Northeast.
