As part of efforts to preserve their unique culture, US-based group Umuaka Youths Association Tri-State Branch , has launched a seven-track music album, ‘Egwu Umuaka’ and a maiden three-day convention.
The seven-track album and the association’s maiden convention held at the Robert Treat Hotel, Newark, New Jersey, on July 5-7, were targeted at raising funding for its upcoming youth empowerment and scholarship projects for students in Umuaka community, Nigeria.
Egwu Umuaka (Songs of the Sons and Daughters of Umuaka) has tracks like Nwa Aka Azuru Azu’, ‘Umuaka, Ndi Nwere Ugo’, ‘Nwa Afor Akah’, ‘Oja Ndi Akah’, ‘Umu Umuaka Na Abia’, ‘Umu Umuaka Ndi Oma’ and ‘Egwu Oganihu Umuaka’, and is available for streaming on YouTube.
Umuaka Youths Association Tri-State Branch, are comprised of the sons and daughters of Umuaka autonomous community of Njaba Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria living in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, in the United States of America.
A communique signed by the association’s president, Chinedu Okoro, vice president, Chibugo Durugo, secretary general, Dr Ogechi Nnoli, and public relations officer, Chialuka Onyema noted that the historic events, a pure celebration, will keep their unique culture alive.
“Our new official music, our traditions, and our values are the threads that weave the fabric of our identity.
This three-day convention was in collaboration for the Umuaka National Union USA Youth Wing, under the general leadership of Chief Dr Favour Awuzu, to convene, increase membership and to celebrate our culture in grand style.
“We extend our gratitude to everyone who has supported over the seven years of our growth. Your unwavering dedication and belief in our cause have brought us to this moment. Together, we have made significant strides, and we will continue to build a brighter future for the youths of Umuaka.”
