The International Spokesman of IAWPA, Amb Dr Emmanuel Nkweke, made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, the Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Amb. Nkweke said the decision of IAWPA to commemorate this year’s American Independence Day was to thank the American government in its pursuit of peace not only in Nigeria but the world over. He hailed the commitment of the American government in especially funding the United Nations (UN).

He said the association will be holding an Independence Day public lecture on Wednesday, July 3, at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, from 10am. This will be followed with a solidarity walk from the Unity Fountain, Abuja, to the American Embassy where the solidarity message will be presented to the American Ambassador to Nigeria, who is also expected to receive Peace Award from IAWPA.
