The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued warning to its Citizens in Nigeria about a possible terrorist attack against US facilities in the country and asked them to be cautious of the situation in the West African  country.
The alert was reportedly issued on Monday by the US mission in Nigeria following the intensification of terror threats since the United States and Israel launched air strikes on Saturday February 28 against Iran that killed Irans’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and about 40 of his top military and political officials.
According to Reuters, US citizens were advised to take additional precautions when traveling to the embassy in the Nigerian capital Abuja and the US Consulate in commercial capital Lagos and U.S.-affiliated schools, ‌the embassy said.
The embassy did not give details on the security threat, but Nigerian authorities have in recent days stepped up security in Abuja following threats of pro-Iranian protests.
There have been pro-Iranian protests in the northern Nigeria, against the US-Israeli war on Iran organized by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shiites who have denounced the attacks against the Islamic Republic.
Iran is a Shia dominated country and the solidarity it gets from northern Nigeria is feared could trigger unrest in the country, a country that has already be beleaguered by terrorist activities for over a decade, many of which have allegedly been linked to the Islamic Republic.
