The Bauchi State government has received hospital and medical equipment worth several millions of dollars from a US-based health organisation, World Medical Relief, in a move expected to significantly strengthen the healthcare delivery system in the state.
The donated items include patient-care equipment, nutrition treatment materials, electronic hospital beds, wheelchairs, delivery components and other modern medical facilities.
Receiving the equipment at the Central Store of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Bauchi yesterday, the state commissioner for health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, expressed appreciation to World Medical Relief for the donation, describing it as a major boost to the health sector.
According to him, the donation was facilitated by Governor Bala Mohammed who visited the organisation in the United States last year.
Dr. Dambam disclosed that one container of the equipment had already arrived, while four others were on their way from the Lagos seaport.
“In addition to these, there are five more containers still in the United States that are being shipped to Nigeria and will ultimately arrive in Bauchi,” he added.
He described the equipment as modern, high-quality and expensive, noting that they would greatly enhance healthcare services across the state.
