US singer D4vd has been identified as a “target” of a grand jury investigation in Los Angeles relating to the death of a 14-year-old girl, according to newly unsealed court filings
The artiste, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, has not been charged or officially named as a suspect. No indictment has been announced, and grand jury proceedings remain ongoing, US media report.
Court documents indicate that the teenager’s remains were discovered in a vehicle belonging to the singer in September. The filings further confirm that prosecutors have identified D4vd as a potential subject of proceedings involving one count of murder.
The documents became public after members of the singer’s family were summoned by a California court to testify before the grand jury.
His father, Dawud Burke, challenged the summons in a Texas court. In doing so, he included excerpts from the California case materials that had not previously been made public, leading to the unsealing of additional details.
Under US law, being designated a “target” of a grand jury investigation means prosecutors believe there is substantial evidence linking the individual to a crime. However, it does not amount to a formal charge.
D4vd has not publicly commented on the latest developments. However, his representatives previously stated that he was cooperating with law enforcement authorities.
