The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has partnered with the Zamfara State government to enhance the state’s agricultural policy process.
While visiting the state, the leader of the USAID delegation, Prof. Oyinkan Tasie, said six states, including Zamfara, were selected across the country to implement the project.
According to him, while in the state, the USAID team interacted with stakeholders to determine how to make women groups and people with disabilities, among others, more productive in agriculture.
“We interact with stakeholders; we want to see how we can make women groups and people with disability, among others, more productive in agriculture,” he said.
Oyinkan said the delegation was interested in farmers’ challenges and how they could expand their access to the market.
“We want to know more about farmers’ access to funds and storage challenges. We want to see Zamfara agricultural products have access to the global market,” he added.
Receiving the delegates, the state commissioner for agriculture, Harunah Ya’u Gamji, thanked the USAID team for visiting the state and for including it among the six beneficiary states in the project policy.
He assured Zamfara government’s partnership with the USAID-funded project, Policy Support for Economic Growth, to enhance agricultural production in the state.
Gamji described the visit as a welcome development, saying it aligned with the present administration’s policy of enhancing agriculture.
He promised the state government’s commitment to participating fully in the project, considering its impact on the agricultural value chain and the state’s general economic growth.
