Usain Bolt Set For Non-League Debut After Registering With Wythenshawe FC Veterans

Eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt appears set to make a return to competitive football after being registered with Manchester-based Wythenshawe FC Veterans.

The former Jamaican sprint star, who still holds the world records for the 100 metres and 200 metres, is listed in the squad of Wythenshawe FC Veterans’ over-35 side on the Football Association’s Full-Time website.

The team compete in the Cheshire Veterans League and boast a squad featuring several former top-level professionals.

The side is managed by former Manchester City and Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Ireland, while other notable names on the squad list include former England internationals Danny Drinkwater, Joleon Lescott and Emile Heskey, as well as Antonio Valencia, Marc Albrighton and Papiss Cisse.

Bolt, 40, has long been an avid football fan and pursued a professional career in the sport after retiring from athletics following the 2017 World Championships.

He spent time training with Borussia Dortmund and later had a trial with Australian club Central Coast Mariners, making two appearances in pre-season before his proposed professional move fell through.

The Manchester United supporter has also been a regular participant in the Soccer Aid charity match over the past decade.

Wythenshawe FC Veterans are yet to officially announce Bolt’s signing, although his inclusion on the FA’s registration system suggests he could feature for the club.

The club has been approached for comment.
