Wellesley, the father of eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, has died at the age of 68.

UK Independent reports that Wellesley, father of three, passed away on Monday in Jamaica after a protracted illness.

Wellesley ran a grocery store alongside his wife Jennifer and maintained a low profile.

However, he played a crucial role in Usain’s career, as he rose to become an eight-time Olympic gold medallist.

“I join with every Jamaican in extending my deepest and most sincere condolences to Usain Bolt, his beloved mother Mrs. Jennifer Bolt, and the entire Bolt family, following the passing of their patriarch, Mr. Wellesley Bolt.
