The Naqabatul Markaziyyun Alumni Association yesterday hailed Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board( JAMB), for his forthrightness in handling the error that marred the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) results.

The association described Oloyede, a product of the Markaz Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Agege, Lagos, as a man of unequal integrity and a national icon.

Addressing a news conference in Ilorin, Kwara State, the association’s secretary general, Prof Hamzat AbdulRaheem, emphasised that Oloyede is known for his honesty, probity and veritable source of inspiration for many Nigerians.

He described the discrepancies in the JAMB results as technical glitches, which can happen to any organisation.

“His (Oloyede) records of achievements are well known. This should therefore not warrant any call for resignation from any quarters. We appreciate the agency’s stance in ordering a resit examination in some centres where a technical glitch was observed.

“We share the pains of the affected candidates and their parents for the trauma the incident might have caused them,” Hamzat said.

He appealed to parents not to be frustrated in a situation of this nature but to be “optimistic, understanding, persevering and trusting in Allah.”

Some of the members of the association that attended the press conference include Prof Badmas Yusuf, Dr AbdulRasheed Mahmud and former head of Islamic Unit at Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kwara), Imam Olayiwola AbdulSalam.
