The All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared Governor Hope Uzodimma and Prince Alex Mbata as winners of its senatorial primaries in Imo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The chairman of the APC House of Representatives Primary Elections Committee for Senate, Rear Admiral Kayode Williams (rtd), announced the results on Monday in Owerri.

He declared Uzodimma winner of the Imo West Senatorial District primary after polling 230,464 votes, defeating former Governor Rochas Okorocha, who scored 1,098 votes.

Williams said Uzodimma satisfied all requirements of the party and the electoral guidelines, adding that he recorded the highest number of valid votes in the contest.

The APC returning officer also confirmed that Senator Osita Izunaso stepped down from the race after earlier obtaining a nomination form to seek re-election.

In Imo East Senatorial District, Prince Alex Mbata was also declared winner after polling 121,680 votes.

His closest challenger, Dr Chijioke Kaduru, had earlier withdrawn from the race before the conclusion of the primary.

Meanwhile, results from Imo North Senatorial District were still being awaited at the time of filing this report, with Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and Senator Patrick Ndubueze contesting for the ticket.

The primaries were conducted across the state under party supervision, with officials describing the exercise as orderly and largely peaceful.
