Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has asked the National Assembly to create two states in the South East.
The governor made the call at the zonal centre B public hearing of the constitution amendment (for Imo and Abia states) held at the Eze Imo’s Palace in Owerri.
The occasion was graced by the deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Chike Olemgbe and the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Ruby Emele and other top government functionaries.
Uzodimma said it was necessary to address this imbalance and advocated urgent action in this direction.
He said, “South East is the only region with five states. This imbalance has led to the under representation of the zone in critical national institutions. The law of equity, justice and fair play should apply in this our legitimate demand for additional two states.”
