Following the looting and vandalism during the hunger protest in Kano, the Kano state government has announced the arrest of 632 suspected vandals of public property in some parts of the state.

During a press briefing, the Director General of Media made this known to the state governor, Sunusi Bature, on Monday. He said they were arrested during the protests and have since been arraigned before various metropolis courts.

He emphasised the state government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order and warned that those guilty of vandalising property would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

He further announced that the state government plans to provide massive training programs for youths in various trades to promote self-reliance.

However, he explained further that a committee of inquiry will be set up to investigate those behind the senseless killings and looting of public buildings in the state and will ascertain the root cause of the killings and wanton destruction of property.

He also noted that the genuine protesters have since submitted their grievances to the state governor, which will be forwarded to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja for appropriate action.

Meanwhile, with security beefed up in most stores, industries, supermarkets, and public buildings, protesters have defied the curfew in the state. They are coming out in patches in parts of the metropolis, including Zoo Road, Zaria Road, and Hadejia Road.

Along the Riminkebe area of the metropolis, protesters are seen offering special prayers in continuation of the hunger protest. It is unclear why the protesters carry Russian flags as they move in groups across the metropolis.
