The Senator Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party has said the vandals and miscreants who attempted to forcefully gain entrance into the party’s National Secretariat were arrested by Police in a swift operation that restored order to the premises.
Senior special adviser (media) to the Interim National Chairman, Ken Eluma Asogwa, confirmed the development in a statement released yesterday in Abuja, saying the arrested suspects are already providing investigators with useful information that could expose their sponsors.
The Labour Party has been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with a court judgment affirming the current leadership structure.
The party has been working to restore order and stability, and the recent arrest of vandals at its secretariat is seen as a step towards maintaining peace and security within the party.
“The Labour Party appreciates the Nigerian Police for their timely intervention and thanks its supporters nationwide for their vigilance,” Asogwa said.
He added that the party’s internal security measures and prompt reporting to law enforcement were instrumental in ensuring the suspects were apprehended.
He, however, warned that the party would no longer condone acts of brigandage, especially from elements within its former leadership, whom he accused of attempting to “desecrate the secretariat under the cover of darkness.”
Asogwa emphasised that the current leadership of the party, as affirmed by a court judgment and recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), remains Senator Nenadi Usman as National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as National Secretary.
“Nigeria is a nation governed by laws, not a banana republic. Those rogue elements creating unnecessary hysteria in the name of the Labour Party must desist forthwith,” he declared.
The party also called on security agencies to clamp down on other criminal elements using its name to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, warning that such acts of impersonation and fraud would no longer be tolerated.
“These charlatans, who purport to operate under the banner of the party without authority, are hereby warned that the party will no longer tolerate such criminality from any member, regardless of how highly placed,” Asogwa added.
