President of the Senior Staff Club University of Ibadan, Dr. Bisi Olawuyi, has urged the nation’s traditional institutions to help the government to combat insecurity in the country.
Olawuyi who spoke on the elevation of a member of the club by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, said that traditional institutions are important for peace and security in the country.
The university don tasked the newly installed Bada Olubadan, Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde, to enrich the quality in the Olubadan-in-Council.
Olawuyi, who said the elevation of Makinde was deserving, urged the new Chief to continue to discharge his unique duties to bring the traditional systems of Ibadan into global embrace.
He said the club was happy to associate with the new chief and would be available to assist him in meeting the mandates of new traditional elevation.
The club’s president admonished the elevated chief to use his wealth of experience to bring new ideas into solving social problems noticed in Ibadan.
According to him, as one of the chiefs of Olubadan, quality advice and support is needed to improve quality of leadership both at the traditional stool of the Olubadan but in the governance of Oyo State.
The president noted that governance would be easier if traditional institutions were annexed for engendering peace, security and development.
