The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed concern over allegations made by the Dangote Group against Farouk Ahmed, the managing director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
NANS’ President of the Senate, Usman Adamu Nagwaza, in a statement on Monday, noted that these allegations have raised serious questions about the integrity and transparency of the NMDPRA, and “we believe that they require immediate attention.
“As the umbrella body of Nigerian students, NANS is committed to promoting accountability and good governance in Nigeria.
“We believe that the allegations against the MD of NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, are a serious breach of trust and require immediate action.
“The allegations have the potential to undermine the confidence of the Nigerian people in the NMDPRA and the government’s commitment to fighting corruption.
“On this note, we hereby unequivocally call on Mr President to suspend the managing director of NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, within the next 72 hours pending investigation into the serious allegations made against him.
“This suspension is necessary to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly and without interference. We believe that it is essential to maintain the integrity of the investigation and ensure that those responsible for any wrongdoing are held accountable.’’
“We are committed to ensuring that the Nigerian people are protected from corrupt practices and that those responsible are held accountable. The Nigerian people deserve to know the truth about the allegations made against the Managing Director of NMDPRA, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.
“Importantly, we want to state in all clear terms that if the suspension is not carried out within the next 72 hours, we will mobilise all of our structures across the country to prepare for a mass action of shutting down the head office of NMDPRA in Abuja.
“We believe that this is a necessary step to ensure that the Nigerian people are heard and that justice is served. We are confident that the Nigerian people will support us in this endeavour, and we are prepared to take all necessary actions to ensure that the truth is revealed and justice is served”, he said.
