The Nigeria Association of the Blind in Taraba State has appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas for urgent support and active participation in the upcoming 2025 International White Cane Day celebration.

In an open letter signed by the state chairman, Wanderimam Teyang, the association urged the governor to approve funding for the two-day event and to personally attend, highlighting the importance of his presence as a symbol of inclusivity and government support.

The annual event, which celebrates the achievements and resilience of the blind and visually impaired, is scheduled for October 15 and 16.

Activities lined up for the event will include a symbolic road walk from the Ministry of Works to the Government House on the first day, as gathered by LEADERSHIP Sunday, followed by a grand celebration on the second day.

“We humbly plead with Your Excellency to remember our programme and to grace the occasion with your presence.

“Your attendance will not only bring immense joy and encouragement to our members, but also send a powerful message of inclusion and compassion for all persons with disabilities in the state,” the letter stated.

Acknowledging Governor Kefas’s track record, they noted with concern that he has yet to pay attention to the association or grace an event organised by the blind community.

“As a disability-friendly governor, we are confident in your continued commitment to uplifting the lives of the blind and visually impaired,” the statement added.

The group also appealed for the release of funds requested through a memo submitted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Reintegration to facilitate preparations for the event.
