Voters in Jikwoyi community in the nation’s capital yesterday lamented the slow process of registration for the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Election materials arrived at polling Units 015 and 103, at Jikwoyi Phase 2, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) at 8:00am while voting commenced at 9:10 am.

The units witnessed massive turnout of voters, including old men and women, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

Though the exercise was peaceful, the residents complained that the exercise was slow as only a few officials attended to the crowd.

One of the voters, who identified herself as Mrs Martins, said the polling units were inadequate, hence the crowd, saying they used to have more polling units in the area.

Another voter, Mr Edward Simon, who came out to vote as early as 8am, said he had been on the queue with no hope of voting soon because of the slow pace of the exercise.

One of the party agents for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at polling unit 103, Mr. Danjuma Yusus, said there were issues of card rejection and affirmed that the process was slow.

Yusus also said that there used to be more polling units at the Phase 11 field voting point, being the major voting unit in the community.

As at 11:30am, the queues stretched with people standing under the sun to vote.
