A notorious thug known as Hantar Daba and wanted by the Kano State Police Command, has surrendered himself to the Command.

In company of his mother and former rival Abba Burakatai, Hantar Daba submitted himself to the Police Command headquarters in Kano on Monday.

Recall that the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usain Gumel, had two months ago announced the implementation of kinetic and non-kinetic methods of ensuring a crime-free Kano State under which the state government granted amnesty to some hardened criminals in the state, promising them a better life if they genuinely repent.

Several of them embraced the offer and handed over their weapons to the Police while Hantar Daba remained at large and was thereafter declared wanted.

However, in a statement issued to journalists by the Police Command and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Tuesday, he said that Hantar Daba, who had been on the run, had surrendered himself to the Police and any member of the public with complaint against him should notify the Command.

“The good news is that, the last person; Hantar Daba yesterday 27th of November, 2023 who has been on the run finally surrendered himself to the Police Command. He was led with joy and happiness by his mother and some family members requesting to be part of the amnesty program of the State Government.

“He further said that he is so sorry for past ugly life and now ready to participate in the promotion of peace and sustainable development of the State.

“In furtherance, he admitted that he controls more than 100 followers from his camp whom he is having strong influence on and will broker peace with them and bring them to totally change from the longtime supremacy fight (Fadan Yan Daba) regime between Hausawa, Gwale and Kofar Na’isa thugs groups.

“Meanwhile, Hantar Daba is currently under the custody of the Kano State Police Command undergoing security profiling, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc called on anyone with a complaint against Hantar Daba to report at the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) at Bompai Police Headquarters Kano or lodge the complaint,” the statement said.
