Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP TV) hosted the maiden edition of the Nigerian Comedy Awards recently at the Eko Convention Center, Lagos.
The event which ended on a high note recognized the inputs of individual and organizations in the country’s comedy industry. These include a Revelation of the Year Award to Layi Wasabi; Posthumous Awards to Sam Efe Loco, and Gbenga Adeboye; Best Comedy Kid, Kiriku, and best comedy cartoonist, Dada Adekola. Each winner received in addition to their plaques a million naira cash award.
The event was hosted by Kiekie, alongside exciting music performance by Tuface Idibia and 9ice, and a dramce dramam by Segun Adefila’s Crown Troupe of Africa, accompanied by hilarious stand-up comic acts by Akpororo and Damola.
The occasion further saw the launch of The Unusual Biography of Wale Adenuga MFR: A Pencil In The Hand of the Creator, the biography of WAP TV chairman, Wale Adenuga who marked his 75th birthday. The book is on sale on Amazon.
Co-executive producer of the award, Wole Adenuga in his appreciation of the sponsors of the award said, “The names of all winners, as well as several photos and videos from the event, are now on our Instagram platforms @nigeriacomedyawards and @waptvchannel, while the entire recorded event would soon be available to watch on several television channels as well as online.”
