The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday moved out in their numbers to ensure that workers in the state fully complied with the directive of the organised labour on the two-day warning strike in Ondo State.
As at 9:am, the NLC officials were seen moving from government offices to another to ensure full compliance to the directive.
It was observed that workers in the state stayed at home without minding the counter directive of the state Head of Service (HoS) of the state, Kayode Ogundele, to the workers that they should be in their respective offices.
However, Banks in the state are open for business, while the NLC leadership of the chapter were going round the state capital in buses to ensure hundred percent compliance with the sit-at-home directive.
Meanwhile, NLC in the state has warned the HoS, Kayode Ogundele, to stop threatening workers in the state to ignore the two day warning strike called by the NLC.
In a statement issued by the NLC, the organised labour called on the Acting Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to urgently call the HoS to order.
The statement titled ‘ONDO HoS IS OVER STEPPING HIS AUTHORITY: ACTING GOVERNOR SHOULD CALL HIM TO ORDER’, the NLC, said: “It has come to the notice of the organized labour in Ondo State that HoS, Mr Kayode Ogundele is trying to cause industrial crisis in the state with his viral video.
“In the viral video, the HoS was said to have threatened workers to ignore the two day warning strike called by the NLC.
“We wish to direct our members and workers in the state to remain at home as directed by the NLC. The Congress will put Mr Ogundele at appropriate position at the right time.
“Labour unions under NLC shall take on the HoS and calling on the Acting Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the SA on union matters & Special Duties, Mr Dare Aragbaiye to call Mr Ogundele to order before he truncates the existing labour harmony in the state.
‘We maintain that the reason for the strike is justified considering the hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal. The HoS should not cause avoidable industrial unrest in Ondo State. We wish Mr Ogundele is called to order immediately.”
