Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has threatened to arrest and prosecute any ljaw, Itsekiri or Urhobo group which refers to another ethnic group as customary tenants.
He spoke when he convened a security meeting with stakeholders from Warri and environs in Benin, warning them to avoid any issue that would cause a repeat of the 2003/2004 crisis.
The meeting may not be unconnected with the controversial INEC ward delineation exercise in Warri.
He said they were determined to prevent any breakdown of law and order and the need to enhance peace, safety and security in Warri.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 5 headquarters, Benin City, Salman-Dogo Garba, said he convened the meeting at the instance of the IGP and noted that there was no difference between the Ijaws, Itsekiris and the Urhobos.
The AIG further appealed to the stakeholders on the need for them to control their youths and refrain them from making inciting and inflammatory statements, especially on social media.
He reiterated that when a life is lost, nobody can bring it back.
