Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni said his administration would continue to formulate policies and ideas that would facilitate the development of small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) for a more sustainable economy.

The governor stated this at the closing ceremony of two week training programme on soft skills development for 50 SMEs organised by the state Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation in collaboration with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Damaturu.

Buni, represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, said his administration believed in empowering people economically, hence the idea of creating the new ministry to make people more business-oriented across the state.

He commended the foundation for the training, especially as the initiative was in line with his administration’s post-insurgency recovery process of enhancing livelihoods.

“We are proud to associate with the Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in our common drive at providing employment and income generation opportunities for self-reliance for our teeming youths.

“Today, we have concretised our commitment by completing a ten- day training workshop for trainers of ten different vocations for 50 beneficiaries who would in turn train other 50 youths or apprentices during a one year period as part of their contributions to the development of small and medium scale enterprises in the state.

“They are expected to train one parson and continuously for the knowledge acquired to spread among the existing small and medium enterprises in the form of a revolving cycle of train-the-trainers programme for increased productivity and wealth creation in the state,” ghe governor said.

The former governor of Kano State and secretary of Board of Trustees of the foundation, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau who represented the chairman of the board, Babangida Aliyu, said the mission behind the training was to ensure that people, especially the youth, were gainfully employed for better progress.

The special assistant to the Yobe State governor on wealth creation, empowerment and employment generation, Hon. Abdullahi Bego among other speakers commended the foundation for keying into Governor Buni’s empowerment development agenda assuring of total support for better results.
