With three days to the planned protest against hunger and hardship across the country, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Lagos State Council has again absolved itself of involvement.
The NLC Lagos State Council chairman, Comrade Funmi Sessi, stated this while briefing Labour writers in Lagos and also appealed against the plan to kick-start the protest in Lagos State.
The union threatened anyone who intended to use the protest to destroy public property to be ready for resistance from the union in the state.
The NLC also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to start monthly nationwide broadcasts to inform the people of his plans and help eradicate misinformation about the regime that could arise from a dearth of adequate communication.
Comrade Sessi said, “Our plan here in Lagos is in line with our national body that absolved NLC from such protest. We are not against protest, as everyone has the right to express themselves, but we are against destructive protest whereby public property will be destroyed.
“With the voice we are hearing even though we are yet to know the originators of the planned protest, telling people to go violent and telling the would-be protesters to start with Lagos State, we will deal decisively with such a voice when time comes since they want to use Lagos as their starting point.”
“The tone of the voice we are hearing shows they want a destructive protest. We will resist a destructive protest in Lagos.
“We recognise the hardship Nigerians are going through; we are all experiencing the same hardship. But we in Lagos State will not allow violence and destructive protests. Parents should take precautionary measures. They should caution their children from being used for such protests.”
