Governor of Abia State Okezie Ikpeazu said the state government cannot handle the extent of the gully erosion menace at Ovom in  Ogbor Hill, Aba effectively.

Ikpeazu stated this while inspecting the extent of a recent landslide at the site and appealed for the intervention of the federal government through the Ecological Office in the Presidency.

He said while waiting for the intervention, the government would commence emergency remedial work at the site within the next two weeks when the rains would have subsided.

Thanking God that no life was lost in the landslide, he regretted that natural water paths in the area has been used for building purposes thereby subjecting it to additional pressure.

Ikpeazu who had earlier been briefed by the relevant government agencies on the menace expressed deep concern at the extent of the erosion.
