Former lawmaker representing Kogi West in the Senate, Senator Dino Melaye, has declared that the Opposition Coalition’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) was fast becoming a political force with the defections of serving and former federal lawmakers, as well as ex-governors, into its fold.

Melaye, who spoke during an interview on Arise News’ ‘PrimeTime’ show on Monday evening, said the party was “growing geometrically” and positioning itself as the platform that will unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 elections.

“On a daily basis, we have people joining the ADC. As I speak, we have over 100 Senators, both former and serving, who are members of the ADC. We have close to 400 members of the House of Representatives, former and serving, who are members of the ADC. We have dozens of former governors who are members of the ADC, and we are growing geometrically and otherwise,” he said.

When asked by the host about the political relevance of former lawmakers, Melaye argued that they still wield considerable influence.

“It depends on your hold in your constituency. Many serving members of the National Assembly actually hold their allegiance to some former members of the National Assembly. I can tell you that for free,” he explained.

Melaye, also a former member of the House of Representatives, insisted that the ADC was preparing to take power from the APC in 2027.

“I am a proud member of the ADC and that is the party that will unseat Tinubu and, by the grace of God, send APC out of the Villa come May 29th, 2027,” he declared.

Speaking on the recently concluded by-elections where the APC won in many constituencies, Melaye dismissed the electoral exercises as a sham.

“There was no election, that was not an election. But I want to assure you that the 2027 election will not go that way. Nigerians are wiser. Like the Boy Scouts, we are more prepared, and I want to tell you that we will defend our votes this time. Leave that to time and season, but I am assuring you that it is not going to be a tea party as usual,” Melaye declared.
