Following recent attacks by bandits in the state, Niger State governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has reassured the victims of the state government’s determination to secure the state.
He assured them of his resolve to have a secured state explaining that the impact of his interface with service chiefs recently will soon be felt by all and sundry.
The governor, in a statement by his chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, to mark the 2023 Democracy Day, said the welfare of citizens is paramount to the development of a democratic system.
Just within one week no fewer than 20 people were killed and more than 50 people abducted by bandits in Kaffinkoro, Rafi, and now moving towards Mariga local government area.
The governor who prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed by bandits recently, also prayed for quick recovery of those injured and safe return of abductees.
He also called for their continued support to his administration’s policy thrusts and reminded them of government’s commitment to building a just, secure, prosperous and virile society.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people of the state, and maintained that time has come for things to be done differently and bring about the desired results.
“It is time for the leadership at all levels to depart from the usual rhetoric and seek pragmatic solutions to the challenges of governance in order not to destroy our hard-earned democracy”, he stated.
Consequently, he declared that “under my watch, Niger State will be great and lives of its citizens must be better.”
The governor eulogised all patriotic Nigerians who made sacrifices to ensure the celebration of Democracy Day and urged Nigerians especially residents of the state to remain resolute to sustain the dreams of the founding fathers.
