We’ll Rescue You, Police Assure Abducted Former Imo Lawmaker

A former lawmaker and local government chairman of Okigwe local government area of Imo State, Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, has been kidnapped by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Already, the Imo State Police Command has begun a manhunt for his rescue and the arrest of his abductors.

Ogbu was abducted on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in Onuimo local government area of the state.

The police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, said the command was aware that Ogbu was kidnapped by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN).

According to him, the police commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical operatives to work with security operatives from other agencies.

Okoye said Danjuma had also ordered a detailed investigation to apprehend the kidnappers and ensure the safe rescue of Ogbu.

He urged the people to inform the police of any useful information that can aid the arrest of the suspects and assured that Ogbu would be rescued safely and his abductors arrested.

Danjuma said, “The Imo State Police Command is aware of a viral video showing Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, former state legislator who represented Okigwe State Constituency, being held hostage by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists.

“The commissioner of police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has since ordered the immediate deployment of the command’s Tactical Units, in synergy with other security agencies, and a detailed investigation has been launched to apprehend the hoodlums and ensure the safe rescue of the former lawmaker who was abducted at Onuimo on Sunday, September 9, 2025.

“The command appeals to the general public to remain calm and vigilant. Anyone with useful information that can assist the ongoing operations should please contact the Imo State Police Command on 0803 477 3600 or report at the nearest police station,” he said
