The chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, George Chima, has said the commission is determined to conduct a free, fair, and credible election on November 2.
Chima gave the assurance yesterday in an address he presented during a stakeholder meeting at the commission’s office in Umuahia, the state capital.
“All political parties are therefore requested to play according to the rules as our men will be thorough in their work,” he assured.
“It is expected that before departing from this meeting, the political parties will sign a peace accord as an assurance of peaceful conduct.”
In response, Uluocha Chimex, the state chairman of the Young Progressives Party and Interparty Advisory Council, urged the parties to play by the rules.
He lauded the commission for preparing for the election within one month and the governor, Alex Otti, for his non-interference in the election process.
Speaking on behalf of the security agencies, the state’s commissioner of police, Danladi Isa, assured of their resolve to ensure the exercise is conducted peacefully.
