Abia State governor, Alex Otti has said his administration is not only building roads in and around the state capital, Umuahia, but also expanding its ecosystem.

Otti stated this at the flag-off of the reconstruction of the 4.32 kilometres Orpet-Umuafai-Lodu-Ahiaeke Road and the 3.79 kilometres Ahiaeke-Okwuta-Bende Road totaling 8.11kilometres.

He said the roads, which are expected to be completed in nine months, would support entrepreneurs and their families as well as lessen the economic burden of fixed-income earners.

“The successful completion of the roads will respectively end the daily hassles of thousands of people who ply them as they go about their regular social and economic activities.

“They will offer a wide array of benefits to different stakeholder groups including transporters and commuters, farmers, property owners and developers, students and traders who function along these corridors.”

Speaking also, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, Obi Aguocha said the roads are of great economic importance to the agrarian communities around the area.

While commending the governor for the projects, the legislator appealed to him to equally fix the Ofeke road which he noted had long been abandoned by previous administrations.

Contributing, the deputy speaker of the state’s House of Assembly and member for Umuahia East, Austin Nmeregini and his colleague for Isialangwa North, Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu expressed delight with the project.

In a remark earlier, the commissioner for Works, Otumchere Oti, noted that the deplorable condition of the roads had caused untold hardship to their users and negative impacts on the economy of communities.
