The vice chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe has said the management is making the federal university an entrepreneurial university.
Iwe who said this in a press briefing for the 11th Convocation ceremony of the university, adding that the move is in line with the management’s dream of ensuring that the university attains a level of enterprise that would enhance its resources.
He noted that despite its challenges, the management has continued to make remarkable headway in various key areas: “Our bread and biscuit factory, as well as our water factory are growing exponentially.
“The College of Animal Science and Animal Production, and College of Crop and Soil Sciences, for instance, are vigorously driving a level of animal crop production that is consistent with the vision of the university,” he added.
He announced that within the next two months, the university’s feed mills will be functioning, adding that by then, the university will have enough feed for its animals and excess to sell for profit.
According to him, “Additionally, we are working hard on getting feed internally for our fishes, so we can boost fish production to generate more revenue.”
Iwe noted that in the area of Information and Communication Technology, the management is increasing the university’s bandwidth and will achieve full coverage by the end of next year.
“We have embarked on the biometrics capturing of all our students to enhance security, strengthen examinations, and facilitate the speedy preparation of transcript.”
Another activity conducted ahead of the convocation was a lecture delivered by former vice chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and visiting scholar, National Universities Commission, Abuja, Prof Joseph Ahaneku.
