Amidst rumours of a planned defection by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the 25 PDP members of the Osun State House of Assembly ahead of the August 2026 governorship election have pledged their loyalty and commitment to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s government and the party.
Addressing journalists at the state House of Assembly Complex in Osogbo yesterday, the speaker, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, said the rumours of defection flying around were unfounded, adding that they were not in the business of chasing shadows.
Egbedun, flanked by some members of the House, declared their full support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second-term bid, insisting that there was no crisis that could lead to division in the House.
“We, the Honourable Members, are men of honour. We are not for sale. We are not moved by noise or pressure. We hold the mandate of our people, and we intend to keep that trust with dignity, loyalty and a clear conscience
“We come from the grassroots. We see and feel the pulse of the people every day. And let me say it without hesitation, the people of Osun are with this Governor. They have seen what he is doing. They have felt the impact of his leadership. They know he is working, and so do we
“We also want to restate our confidence in the leadership of our party in Osun State led by Hon Sunday Bisi. The PDP is strong, united and focused. We are proud to stand under that banner”, Egbedun posited.
In his reaction to the defection of members of the national assembly from his constituency, member representing Obokun, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, said: “We work at the state level. We work with the governor directly. We are the accredited representatives of our people, just like the speaker said.
We relate with the people, we know the pulse of our people, and they are fully committed to the Governor. So, the National Assembly has their reasons, but we at the state level are with the governor, who is performing”.
