We’re Paid To Serve, Not To Exploit, Bauchi CP Warns Officers

Bauchi State commissioner of police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has declared that police officers are paid to serve Nigerians and not to exploit them.

He spoke yesterday after a statewide familiarisation and operational tour of area commands.
Aliyu urged the personnel to uphold professionalism, discipline and respect for citizens’ rights.

The commissioner concluded the tour yesterday with a visit to the Metro Area Command in Bauchi metropolis, where he was received by the area commander, chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Divisional Police Officers, representatives of quasi-security organisations and other community stakeholders.

Addressing the personnel, Aliyu reiterated the directive of the inspector-general of police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that policing must be professional, people-oriented and respectful of human rights.
He also sensitised the officers on the NPF social Media Policy and warned them against extortion, prolonged detention of suspects, torture, arbitrary arrests and partisan conduct, particularly during electioneering periods.

He said, “We are paid with citizens’ tax to serve, not to exploit. We are employed to protect, not to torment.

Avoid arbitrary arrest.”

He charged officers to maintain discipline, punctuality, courtesy and prompt response to distress calls, while ensuring that their appearance and working environment reflected the standards expected of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, professionalism and public trust remain the foundation of effective policing, and he stressed that officers must conduct themselves in a manner that strengthens public confidence in the Force.

On security in Bauchi metropolis, CP Aliyu directed the leadership of the Metro Area Command to intensify intelligence gathering, sustain visibility patrols and strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies and residents.

He said such collaboration was essential to tackling kidnapping, armed robbery and other forms of criminality in the metropolis under Operation Velvet.

The commissioner also inspected facilities within the command, commended personnel for maintaining neat and orderly working environments, and listened to their operational and welfare concerns.

He assured the officers that the issues raised during the engagement would be addressed to improve their working conditions, performance, and morale.

With the visit to the Metro Area Command, the commissioner has completed his familiarisation tour of all Area Commands across Bauchi State.

CP Aliyu thanked personnel for their commitment and dedication to duty, while urging residents to continue supporting the police and other security agencies in their collective efforts to build a safer Bauchi State.
