Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has disclosed plans by his administration to send a bill to the State House of Assembly to prescribe appropriate punishment for informants aiding bandits.

The governor disclosed this   while paying the Sallah homage to Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto, at his palace.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, yesterday.

He said the fight against banditry remained a collective responsibility, stressing the need for citizens to support security agencies in tackling insecurity in the state.

“We need to come together and stop the informant syndrome if we are to succeed in defeating bandits,” he said.

The governor described informants as more dangerous than the bandits themselves, noting that banditry would not thrive without informants.

Aliyu also warned against vandalism of public infrastructure, noting that government projects across the state are funded with taxpayers’ money and must be protected by citizens.

The governor further warned politicians against destabilising the peace being enjoyed in the state, saying his administration would not tolerate any action capable of jeopardising peaceful coexistence.

In his remarks, the Sultan called for politics without rancour as political activities ahead of the elections begin.

He commended the governor for ongoing people-oriented projects and urged residents to continue supporting government policies and programmes.

The Sultan later hosted the governor, Aliyu Wamakko and other government officials to a special lunch.
