We’ve Asked Police To Recover Our X Handle From Abure – Nenadi Usman-Led LP

The Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has said it has petitioned the Nigerian Police to recover its official social media account, alleging they are currently under the control of the party’s former leadership.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, said the move was necessary to safeguard the party’s identity and prevent the spread of misinformation.

He disclosed that the police, particularly the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, are already handling the matter.

“The party has formally petitioned the Nigerian Police to facilitate the recovery of its official X account, LabourPartyNG, from the former party leadership currently in control of it,” Asogwa said.

He alleged that individuals involved, including Barrister Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk, are cooperating with investigators and providing relevant information regarding the unauthorised use of the party’s platforms.

The party also distanced itself from an alleged fraudulent X account operating under the name “LABOUR PARTY (LP) NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_, warning the public against relying on information from the account.

“As earlier stated, the party currently operates no social media account for public communication. All official information is disseminated strictly through authorised press statements from the Office of the Interim National Chairman,” he said.

Asogwa explained that the account in question had previously been disowned in February but was altered by its operators in a bid to continue misleading unsuspecting members of the public.

“Preliminary checks showed the operators deceptively altered both the account name and handle after the party’s earlier disclaimer, in a bid to continue misleading the public,” he added.

He further clarified that the party’s known social media platforms—Facebook (Labour Party-Nig) and X (LabourPartyNG)—are currently inactive and not being used for official communication.

The statement also dismissed as false a recent post circulating online claiming the party was expecting the return of Mr. Peter Obi and Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing it as “entirely unauthorised” and not reflective of the party’s position.

“The public will be duly informed upon the conclusion of investigations and the successful recovery of the accounts. In the meantime, Nigerians are advised to disregard any information from @LabourpartyNGR_ and any content currently circulated via LabourPartyNG,” Asogwa said.

He appreciated the media for its professionalism and assured that any changes to the part.
