Liverpool fans were in shock when Jurgen Klopp announced he would be leaving the club back in January. Now that the dust has settled, fans have accepted that their German hero has departed, and are now looking forward to what might happen in the next campaign under new manager, Arne Slot.
Klopp certainly left Liverpool in a better state than he found it, and there’s no doubt that the club is in a strong position to continue hunting for trophies. The question now becomes: can they do it in Slot’s first season? And what else should Liverpool fans expect? Let’s take a look.
Arne Slot’s Style of Play
Arne Slot wasn’t top of the list of managers that could replace Klopp when the German first announced he would be leaving. In fact, he wasn’t on the list at all. Liverpool’s backroom staff, however, have shown in the past that they’re excellent at hiring the right people for the job.
A quick look at Arne Slot’s style of play would suggest that they found the perfect person to replace the hugely popular and successful Klopp. Slot favours high-intensity, attacking play that is right in line with how Liverpool have been playing over the past few years under Klopp. His teams have also shown to be excellent at recovering points from losing positions, which will also sound familiar to Liverpool fans — Klopp’s boys were the best in the league at this during the German’s tenure.
Chasing Trophies
Liverpool are always expected to challenge for trophies, even if it’s the manager’s first season in charge. While no one will demand that Arne Slot brings silverware to Anfield in his debut campaign, Liverpool will at least be expected to be in contention for glory. And of course, Slot’s stock with the club’s supporters will be enhanced immeasurably if he can add to Liverpool’s trophy cabinet. So, what success is realistic? Most sports betting platforms like Betano have Liverpool in contention for the Premier League and Champions League, though it’s more likely that the team will find success in the FA Cup or League Cup. Still, if Liverpool’s talented squad can click into gear early on in the season, then an unlikely title charge could well be on the cards.
Developing Talents
Liverpool fans were heartbroken to learn that Klopp would be leaving, but the impact was softened somewhat by the understanding that the squad he was leaving was stacked with talent. And it’s not just the first eleven that Liverpool fans can be excited about going into the new season. Anfield is home to some of England’s most exciting prospects, including Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones, who are both still just 21 and 23, respectively. Jarell Quansah has also shown signs that he might be the next Virgil Van Dijk, while Conor Bradley will be hoping to make the right-back position his own, especially if Trent Alexander Arnold moves into midfield.
Salah and Van Dijk’s Last Season?
There were rumours that Salah and Van Dijk might depart Anfield this summer, especially since they’re both entering the final year of their contracts. As it stands, it looks more likely that the duo, who have been instrumental in restoring Liverpool back to the top of world football, will stay. However, it seems most likely that this really will be their final season, so fans should simply enjoy them while they can.
Good Vibes to Continue
Nothing is set in stone for Liverpool’s new season, but the signs are positive. Even if no trophies arrive, we can be confident that it’ll be a fascinating journey regardless. After all, it’s the Liverpool way.
